Since she was a little girl, Joy Nichelle Randall always loved make up! To this day her parents tell stories of putting makeup all over her face and wearing wild hair all over her head proclaiming to be Tina Turner, and how her daddy would have to buy her expensive department store make up just to keep her out of her mother’s stuff! It is that imagination and “won’t settle for less” attitude that has driven this young woman to be “The Make Up Killah”. Having created an industry in Charlotte, NC beyond the average make up counter, this girl stays outside of the box! Joy’s work has been seen by millions across the country on networks such as VH1, BET and TV ONE. She has worked with celebrity clients such as Fantasia Barrino, K-Ci and Jo-Jo, Melyssa Ford, Mya, and Bre Scullark from America’s Next Top Model. Her work has also graced the pages of People Magazine & Black Sophisticates Hair Magazine in addition to many online and local publications in Charlotte and Atlanta.
Growing up in Charlotte, NC definitely wasn’t like being in LA or New York. Joy had never even seen a real makeup artist until high school, when she discovered the MAC Counter! Her first experience with MAC was getting the clear Lip Glass that she read in a magazine that had Mary J. Blige’s lips super glossy! She has been a “MAC Girl" ever since! And that very same company gave her the very first job in this industry before even graduating from Cosmetology school. From that moment she thought, "if this is the beginning, imagine where we go from here!" Since, she has freelanced various cosmetic companies like L’Oreal, Urban Decay, Studio Gear and Cover Girl. After working for many companies, Joy realized that doing makeup is what she truly loved and not selling it. She found that working for companies did not give the flexibility for creativity as much as she originally thought. She found that selling makeup and doing it are really 2 different things. That is when she decided that the artistry aspect of the business is what she wanted to make a career out of! And so the idea for FLAWLESS MAKEUP ART was born.
All Joy ever has ever wanted was to “do” Make Up! She created a company that focuses on the artistry of the business! Joy’s theory is it doesn’t matter what product you use, it’s the artist who makes it look good! “I don’t care if its Bonnie Bell, it’s the artist who makes it pop!" She also supports other freelance artists, creating events that feature them and providing outlets outside of make up counters. FLAWLESS MAKEUP ART also shows the diversity of the business. Working with runway, editorial, film, event, television, body art, special occasions and anything that make up requires!
This is what Joy Randall does… MAKEUP. Not only as a career but as an art form; A lifestyle even! This is a life-long journey that is just getting started. Her passion for what she does has taken her so far, so quickly, yet there miles and miles to go! Keep your eye on her or she could fly by you at light speed. Just look up if you miss it…Joy’s headed to the top!
